Instagram can be an intimidating place for beginner yogis - it seems like every post I see is of a beautiful, super thin, hyper-flexible person doing a hollow back handstand on a tropical island while picking their left nostril with their right big toe. I’ve also noticed a common misconception about yoga is that you have to be super flexible or super in shape to practice. This is not true!! While inversions are a super fun component of yoga asana, and more advanced postures do require considerable strength, there are many other postures that are accessible to all, have countless health benefits, and can be profoundly healing and transformative to the body. 
My hope is that by sharing my own journey as a beginner and demonstrating some of the less intimidating fundamental postures, I will inspire at least one person to begin their own yoga practice. If not, I hope this bendy little lad made ya smile!! See y’all on the mat homiesssss!

What a wonderful idea and initiative ❤️❤️❤️DAY 1 of #YogisForAustralia is a pigeon pose! 🐦  Please excuse the very dark, low light environment I’m in, we had a nice big storm today, and I am not complaining! I’m sure everyone’s aware, we really needed this rain! 😍 🌧 ☔️ 🙏🏼 I thought I would use this opportunity to practice flipping my grip again. I hadn’t practiced this in a loooong time so I was surprised I was still able to get this far! 😆

It’s grounding day for #2019faveasanas . My IG ban just lifted and I’m posting a non yoga picture for this today. .
For grounding, I started some rituals in 2019 and it was mainly for inviting more abundance in my life at that point but practicing same rituals repetitively, I learnt a few things about myself in general.

We often ground ourselves through the people we meet and experiences we gather. As a result, our lower chakras from heart below are more dominant and we start grounding ourself via people. This leads to issues like anxiety, depression, codependency,and possessiveness. This stops the flow and we feel all sorts of negative emotions. This often starts in teenage years when we are vulnerable and we absorb everyone’s energy and emotions. .
For grounding, all our chakras need to be in motion and a mediation by Sandra Rolus on YouTube really helped me to be more present in the moment without any attachments. A simple exercise for every morning when you wake up is to visualize that a chord of light from your root chakra (tail bone) connecting to the core of Mother Earth, firmly holding you like gravity is pulling you down. Then visualize a ball of infinite love over your head . This can be a giant Halo of light. Visualize this light traveling through your entire body and connecting to the chord on your tail bone. Now imagine this infinite source of love flowing through you and radiating outwards from you. .

Everything is energy, ground it, radiate it and protect it!

In my yoga therapy program, we have been studying the Panchamaya Model as a way to assess yoga therapy clients and create plans-of-care that meet their specific needs. This model utilizes the five koshas (dimensions of ourselves that are all connected to one another). Here are ways that you can experience the koshas on and off your mat:

Annamaya Kosha (physical): We can experience this through an asana practice that connects you to your body (vinyasa, restorative, yin, gentle, power, kundalini, etc.). Off the mat, this can be experienced by looking at our diet. We can witness how our food affects our emotions as well as our physical bodies. What foods do we crave? What foods cause aversion? What emotions are associated with what we eat?

Pranamaya Kosha (energetic): We can experience this through pranayama practices such as three-part breath, alternate-nostril breathing, ujjayi, or simply just bringing awareness to the fact that we are breathing. Off the mat, we can experience this by spending time in nature and observing how the earth itself breathes. We can also experience pranamaya kosha through connection with friends or loved ones. You have at least one thing in common with every other human being on the planet, the ability to breathe.

Manomaya Kosha (mental/emotional): We can experience this through meditation. Off the mat we can experience manomaya kosha through personal reflection and selfless service. We experience this when we give back to our community without the expectation that we will get something in return.

Vijnanamaya/Anandamaya Kosha (connection to Self/others): We can experience this through deep meditation, mudras, chanting, and any other spiritual practice that connects us to our highest Self/those around us. Off that mat we can experience this through journaling, painting, music, art, theater or any other creative outlet. We also experience this by participating in activities that bring us joy.

Toooootally love intense chest openers and backbends and so, I‘m thankful for my flexible back and spine 🤩😋 I wanted to show you this funky #camelpose variation and flipped the grip in this one, too 😍🐫 What a tough pose, especially when its cold.. 🥶😂 But I am always happy when I accomplish intense bends and really enjoy them when striking poses like this one 😍😌 My back wasn’t as flexible when I started my yoga journey and so I‘m glad to see progress every single time ☺️
Anyway, after cooking @miko_pl a long promised Vietnamese dinner 🍲, we relaxed and chatted away the evening 😄 ... and nooow I need to get some zZzs in cause I only slept a few hours last night 😅😴 Hope you had a wonderful start into the week! 💕

This morning, after a challenging class to work the body and open the mind, I asked my yogis to take a moment to call to mind something they feel really grateful for. Something that brings a smile to their face and warmth to their heart space. Something that makes their life happier or easier or more full of love. I asked them to send out gratitude to this being or space or thing and thank them for the role they play in their life 🙏

You can almost feel the collective peace, the sigh of comfort and ease, the lightness that gratitude brings when shared in a group. In that moment, I was grateful for this work and for the opportunity to share moments like this with kind, open hearted people. No space for bad vibes here thank you very much 🙅🏻‍♀️

It's been said that your Intuition first comes as a whisper, then it's a shout, then it's a roar. If you aren't tuning in and listening to that voice inside, sometimes that roar will come in and disrupt your life. Forcing you to listen. This week’s mantra: practice baby, practice. 🌻

There’s nothing I love more than using my imagination. I have dreamt up so many lives for myself. Conjured up so many ways things can go right or wrong or differently. Thought through every possible scenario for where the next moment might take me. And the next and the next. 🌻

But you know what I’ve found is even better than the most perfect imaginary scenario? A slightly shittier version of said scenario in the real world. 🌻

Dreaming builds a beautiful structure for the life you want, but at some point you gotta stop focusing on the blueprint and install the plumbing, you know what I mean? 🌻

Being consistently bad at something builds discipline. Being told no builds resilience. Little tiny steps of hard-earned progress build confidence. Consistent practice is the only foundation that can sustain the whole thing 🌻

I have no idea how this post became a metaphor based on construction (and how did plumbing get involved?!) but whatever. A weirdly written post is better than not writing at all. Practice baby, practice. That’s the stuff dreams are made of 🌻🌻🌻

Doing straight legged hand stands for an extended period of time has never been one of my strong suits. I had my biggest cheerleader with me today making sure I'm pointing my toes and critiquing my form. She wanted to join, but considering she just threw up less than 12 hours ago, I advised against it 😂

My goal is to be able to stand on my hands for a whopping 10 seconds by the end of the 30 days. Wish me luck! 🥴
